What the Qur’an tells us
He is named alongside Isma‘il and Idris as an example of patience, and elsewhere praised for goodness. These qualities are the clearest facts the Qur’an gives about him.

What we know
The Qur’an does not tell a detailed life story or name his relatives. Later accounts differ, so particular family details and adventures should not be treated as certain.
