Abdullah was a son of Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib and a cousin of Muhammad. He was still young when Muhammad died and continued learning from senior companions afterward.

Interpretation and teaching

He became renowned for explaining Qur’anic passages, language, and legal questions. Students including Mujahid and Ikrima helped transmit the teaching associated with him.
